Forty-one minutes into the Senior Football Championship, Round 3, Sarsfields led Naas by 1-14 to 0- 3.

Playing against the wind, Naas were 0-3 to 0-7 down after 25 minutes, but allowed Sarsfields in for five points in as many minutes. The loss of star forward Conor Mellett due to hamstring problems did'nt help matters.

A Padraig Brennan point followed by a Declan Mc Kenna goal and a Confrey point put them in what looked like an unassailable lead of 14 points. Two Kieran Mc Donagh points, followed by points from Stephen Piggott, Joey Cocoman and Eamonn Callaghan, cut the lead to nine points. Sarsfields replied with a Padraig Brennan free. Bergin and countered with a Naas point.

When Eamonn Callaghan goaled with 4 minutes left there was six in it. Three points - Joey Cocoman, Shane Bergin and Kieran Mc Donagh reduced it to three, but time ran out.
